Khairul Fahmi’s film debut in Jejak Warriors

PETALING JAYA: Kelantan FA goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat is considering becoming an actor after making his debut performance in Jejak Warrior.

In the movie, directed by Saw Teong Hin, Khairul plays as himself. The inspiring road movie is about a boy who travels from Johor Baru to Kota Baru to meet his favourite football team, Kelantan’s The Red Warriors.

“I will only consider the film roles if they allow me to be myself… maybe in films about football. I don’t want to play a romantic lead a love story,” he told reporters after a special preview of the movie at Cineleisure Damansara.

Also at the event were the Teong Hin and the film’s stars Nadiya Nisaa, Pekin Ibrahim and Alif Firdaus. Khairul, 26, who has appeared in several TV commercials and said he has been receiving acting offers from various film production companies. “My first love and priority is still football.

My schedule is very tight that I don’t have time to do other things. Besides, I don’t think that I have any acting talents,” said the Kelantan-born who is also the goalkeeper for the national football team.

On his acting experience for Jejak Warriors, Khairul said it was hard to act in front of the camera.

“It felt a bit weird to say my lines and be natural in front of the camera.

Making it more challenging is the fact that I have the most lines as compared to other players. But it has been a good experience. Being an actor is not easy. You also need to have a lot of patience because filming for a scene can take long hours,” he said.

On why he agreed to be in the movie, Khairul said it was because of the inspiring theme of the movie.

“It revolves around football and tells about a man’s dream, themes that I can relate to. Making it more special was the fact that Kelantan’s The Red Warriors is featured in the movie. In the spirit of football and The Red Warriors team and its fans, I just couldn’t say no,” he said.
