Four students injured when school bus lands in ditch

KULAI: Four students were injured when a school bus carrying a total of 23 SMK Senai students overturned and ended up in a ditch in Jalan Seelong at 6.45am today.

Deputy district police chief, Deputy Superintendent Mohad Idris Samsuri said two boys and two girls were injured, but only three of them were hospitalised. One of them suffered a broken shoulder.

“Two boys and two girls were injured. One of them was believed to have suffered a broken shoulder,” he said.

All injured students were sent to the Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital, here.

The remaining 19 students were unhurt. Idris said the 23 students comprised 12 boys and 11 girls aged between 15 and 17.

Initial investigations revealed the 35-year-old bus driver was trying to avoid crashing into a lorry from the opposite lane, which was overtaking a motorcycle at the time.

“However, the driver lost control of the bus which then swerved to the left before overturning and landing in a ditch in front of a factory.”

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
