‘I did pay my boy’s tuition fees’

KAJANG: Property agent Vinnie Chin stopped sending her son to a tuition centre when he did not improve academically and did poorly in the examinations.

Chin, 39, settled the tuition fees, but according to those managing the centre, she did not clear the May bill.

“May was his last month there. He was there for only five months. I paid his fees on May 12.

“Suddenly in July, they called and accused me of not paying,” she said when contacted.

Chin claimed that she received a text message on Sept 12, warning her that drastic measures would be taken against her if she did not settle the payment immediately.

Last Saturday, she was stunned when she saw a banner at a school gate in Semenyih which featured four children, including her son, with Chinese characters which stated that they owed tuition fees and “do they deserve such parents?”

“I was shocked that they resorted to humiliating my son this way,” she said.

Chin was among the parents whose children were “shamed” by the tuition centre for purportedly not paying up their fees.

Balakong assemblyman Eddie Ng, who met with the parents yesterday, said it was unfair to the children.

“One of them did not want to go to school as she was afraid that she would be humiliated by her friends because of the banner.”

Ng said he tried contacting the tuition centre, but no one responded.

The Star called the centre, but the management declined to comment.

Reports in the Chinese media said the centre had denied putting up the banners.

Ng also said that he hoped the parents would not take advantage of the situation.

“If they have indeed not paid their dues, they should arrange with the tuition centre and settle it fast,” he said.
