Riots break out in Sabak Bernam over cows

SABAK BERNAM: Riots broke out between two groups in Kampung Baru here last night, believed to have been triggered by a dispute over cows.

Police sources said early investigations showed that the incident started about 10pm when a group of men, armed with sticks, went to a house in Kampung Baru and destroyed a car as well as several motorcycles parked outside.

Three men from the group had allegedly barged into the house, flung mud on the walls and smashed its front window. The house owner was also injured.

More than RM20,000 was believed to have been taken away by the group.

An hour later, in a retaliatory move, a different group of men descended upon another house in the same village.

There, they vandalised several cars and motorcycles. The two incidents are believed to have been sparked from an incident on Monday, where two groups of men had allegedly clashed over ownership of cows.

To control the situation and prevent any more retaliatory attacks, police deployed its patrol units and Light Strike Force personnel to the affected areas.

Road blocks were also erected to prevent members from underworld groups from entering Sabak Bernam.

Police have recorded statements from eyewitnesses and are in the process of identifying those involved in the incidents. -NST
