Shahrol grilled for three hours

KUALA LUMPUR: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had finished a three-hour closed door meeting with former CEO of 1Malaysia Development Bhd Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi.

Shahrol when met at the corridors of Parliament said he was glad to be answering all the questions asked by PAC.

“We think we have provided long and lengthy answers. We look forward to cooperate further, he said as he was walking to his car.

Asked on the type of questions he was grilled on, he said: “I am not in the position to answer that.

We will wait for the investigations and the report to be over,” he added.

The closed door meeting had started at 10.30am this morning On Nov 5, PAC chairman Datuk Hasan Arifin had said Shahrol will be called for a meeting and will be asked to bring along relevant documents pertaining to 1MDB during the inquiry as required by PAC procedures.

Hasan had also said 1MDB CEO and president Arul Kanda Kandasamy will also be called for questioning on Dec 1.

Hasan was also asked if PAC will consider calling Jho Low after Shahrol and Arul Kanda have given their testimonies as the tycoon has no direct connection to the troubled state investment firm.

However, Hasan had said Jho Low does not directly hold a position in 1MDB, and PAC will look at legal aspects before calling him.

Aside from PAC, the Auditor-General is also conducting an audit on the accounts of 1MDB, which has reportedly amassed debts of some RM42 billion since it was incorporated in 2009.-nst
