JOHOR BARU: The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar attended the funeral of his religious teacher and former Pulai Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Abdul Kadir Annuar today.

The ruler stood with other family members, friends and colleagues of Kadir at the burial ceremony at 10.30am held at the Kebun Teh Muslim cemetery.

Sultan Ibrahim then joined others to recite prayers and listened to the ‘talqin’ (special sayings for the deceased, which was led by Johor Religious Council (MAIJ) advisor Datuk Noh Gadut.

Rain did not deter the 200 family members, friends and former colleagues of Kadir who showed up to pay their last respects to the former state religious executive council member.

Kadir died at his home in Larkin Jaya at 5.10pm yesterday due to ailment.

He was 82. His family, including his wife Datin Samiah Mohd Said, were seen today pouring rose-scented water and laid petals on Kadir’s grave.

Earlier, Pulai MP Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, Kempas assemblyman Datuk Tengku Putra Haron Aminurrashid Tengku Hamid Jumat, Tanjung Puteri assemblyman Datuk Adam Sumiru and others joined a congregation of 200 people to perform the solat jenazah at Masjid Jamek Tun Hussein Onn, Larkin Jaya at about 10am.-nst
