Wanita chief: Time to show your support for Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: A ceaseless show of support must be given to Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak as this would make his leadership stronger as he continues leading the party.

The support, said Wanita Umno Chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, would give strength to the president and would stop internal or external forces that try to weaken his position in the party.

In her policy and opening speech this morning, she said Wanita Umno and its members are also the backbone of the party and it is vital to support the top leadership.

Shahrizat said: “Umno is a mature party, and we have gone through many experiences and challenges. We must follow traditions.

We must support our president (Najib).”

She also said Wanita Umno delegates and members must continue to stand beside Najib and give their support to his administration as he is also the prime minister of the nation.

Shahrizat further added that without vital support from Wanita delegates, the party would not be able to solve any crisis or challenges faced in this day and age.

“Challenges are part of political traditions. Umno is facing a test and this is not a foreign issue especially for members who are loyal to the party. Despite the challenges faced, we must stand united so we can solve these problems,” she added.

At the same time, Shahrizat called on delegates to pledge their support and loyalty to party president during the assembly and they chanted: Hidup Umno, Hidup Melayu, Hidup Bumiputra, Hidup Wanita, and Hidup Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Wanita Umno, she also said, ?accepts and supports the suggestion mooted by Najib to draft international guidelines on the usage of the Internet without restricting consumers’ right to technology.

This, she added, is important as it would teach users to be more responsible and aware of the information posted and shared on the Internet via social media platforms.

“Wanita Umno fully supports the effort the Communications and Multimedia Ministry has taken to amend and strengthen the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and also Communication and Multimedia Commission Act 1998,” Shahrizat said.

She believed the engagement and discussions held between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and stakeholders would take the feedback from the people positively.

?The assembly was officiated by Shahrizat after presenting her policy speech.

Earlier, prior to the start of the wing’s assembly, Umno vice presidents Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein had visited the assembly meeting and its delegates.

The Umno Wanita assembly sees a total of 983 delegates from 191 division nationwide, with their presence representing more than one million members in the party.-nst
