Bangladeshi fined for using another’s birth cert for 15 years

GERIK: A Bangladeshi was fined RM2,000 or two months in jail for using a birth certificate belonging to another person.

Ahmad Basir, 38, who admitted before magistrate A.Akhiruddin@ Boy Acho to using the document for 15 years was also ordered to be referred to the Immigration department for deportion.

According to the facts of the case presented by prosecuting officer Ahmad Firdaus Che Md Rose from the Perak National Registration Department (NRD), the man was detained at 11.40am on Feb 18 this year by NRD enforcement officers.

He had been using the birth certificate belonging to one Ahmad Basir Mat Rozali since Dec 11, 2001 to apply for a Malaysian identity card.

In mitigation, Ahmad said he entered Malaysia legally in 1991. He said he had married a local woman and have four children who are still schooling.

The prosecution urged for a deterrent punishment as the offence involved national security.

The unrepresented Ahmad paid the fine. – Bernama
