ALOR STAR: Newly appointed Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah clocked in for his first day at work in Wisma Darul Aman here today.

Bashah arrived at the state secretariat building at 7.45am, and punched in his card at 7.56am.

Bashah said on his first day at the menteri besar’s office, he would meet officers for a briefing and to get himself updated with current developments in the state and its administrative matters.

“I have been away for about 2½ years since I was the deputy domestic trade, cooperatives and consumerism minister.

“Thus, I need to meet the officers to brief me on the current developments in the state so that I will have a clear idea on all relevant matters before making any decision,” he said.

Bashah took over the menteri besar’s post after Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir resigned on Wednesday after losing the support of state Umno leaders and a majority of the state assemblymen.

Bashah, who is Bakar Bata assemblyman, was sworn in as Kedah’s 12th menteri besar on Thursday.

He took the oath of office before Kedah Regency Council chairman Tan Sri Tunku Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, at Istana Anak Bukit that day. -nst
