Iranian man caught growing ganja plants at Cheras condo balcony

KUALA LUMPUR: City police on Thursday seized eight ganja plants from a condominium at Bandar Sri Permaisuri in Cheras, here.

The 6.40pm raid by Narcotics Department officers also saw a 33-year-old Iranian man arrested.

City police chief Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh said this was the first case where city police found live ganja plants in their operation.

The plants, he said, were planted in two flower pots at the condominium unit’s balcony.

“The operation was carried out following information received from our sources.

“From initial investigation, police found that the suspect had brought ganja seeds from Iran and we believe that they were meant for his personal use,” he told a press conference at the city police headquarters, here, earlier today.

The man is being detained to facilitate investigation under Section 6B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

On another development, Amar said police nabbed three suspects, including an Indonesian woman, and seized 3.37 kilograms of methamphetamine worth RM430,000 in a raid in Bukit Ceylon on Thursday.

The 5.30pm raid also saw a pistol and 20 bullets seized from the suspects.

Amar said since Jan 1, city police have arrested a total of 7,890 suspects in drug cases including 1,187 drug pushers.

The city Narcotics Department seized multiple types of drugs worth RM9.27 million during the same period.-nst
