Manifesto to also highlight Barisan’s key achievements

LUNDU: The Sarawak Barisan Nasional manifesto for the 11th state election, to be released today, will not just specify what the coalition promises to do for the state in the next five years.

It will also list out the coalition’s key achievements in the state, allowing voters to make a more informed choice at the ballot box on polling day.

“The Barisan Nasional election manifesto which will be announced is quite different as it consists of not only what we will do, but what we have done,” said state Barisan chairman Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

Speaking at a media conference after filing his nomination papers, Adenan who became Chief Minister in 2014, assured voters that Barisan had a viable masterplan for the state.

“Of course I have a masterplan, and if people give me the time we can fulfil it.

“Two years is not enough and that is why I have asked for five more years,” he said.

Adenan will be defending his Tanjong Datu seat in a straight fight against PKR candidate Jazolkipli Numan.

Sarawak Barisan, he said, was entering the state election with the confidence that it would continue to form the next government.

“I think there is some degree of disarray among Opposition parties,” he said.

He cited the confusion in the Opposition on the arrangements to register the candidates.

“In my area, the proposer and seconder (for the opposition candidate) did not bother to come and only the candidate alone came to present his papers.

“I believe in some areas there could be the same thing happening.”

Adenan said that the rules allowed the candidate himself to present his papers, but these incidents indicated the low morale of the Opposition in the state.-thestar
