KUALA LUMPUR: Social harmony in a country is very dependent on the structure of its administration.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said Malaysia has remained peaceful for decades as the government and its lineup of leaders were from various communities.

These leaders, he said in a blog posting today, were able to work together for the betterment of the country and her people.

Najib wrote: “We need to realise that even if a team has representatives from different races, customs and religion it may not necessarily work.

Diversity that is not based on social understanding will fail to provide a good and cooperative environment as what we have witnessed in several campaigns for the upcoming Sarawak state election.”

The prime minister further said Malaysians need to understand that despite having multiracial compositions in the government, ?it should also be led by an administrative system that has been through maturity processes.-nst
