Khir Toyo: I’ve not even thought about contesting Sungai Besar

KLANG: Former Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo is free following his release from parole today.

Dr Khir, who was cleared for release at the Klang Parole and Community Service district office, adjourned to speak to the press at 9am.

Asked if he planned to contest in the upcoming Sungai Besar by-election he said it was not something he gave any throught to.

“I had not even thought about it. I want to rest first, take a break and spend time with my family,” he said.

When asked if he would support the Barisan Nasional election machinery, Dr Khir said he would contribute his time if it was needed.

Dr Khir is also looking into setting up a foundation for convicts after his experience in jail.

Earlier, the Prisons Department Parole and Community Service Director Datuk Abdul Aziz Razak had signed off on Dr Khir’s release at the district office.

Dr Khir, accompanied by his wife Zahrah Kechik put down his thumb prints to officiate the release.

He was granted parole on March 29 after serving six months in Kajang Prison for using his position to obtain land and a bungalow worth RM6.5 million in Shah Alam nine years ago. -nst
