Two gunmen killed in morning shootout with police in Kundang

RAWANG: Police shot dead two gunmen in a shootout at Jalan Lagong in Kundang, here, early morning today.

The 3am incident occurred when the suspects, one of them on police’s wanted list, opens fire at a team of policemen when they were stopped for checks.

Selangor police Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah said a team from federal police Serious Crimes Division (D9) was on a crime prevention patrol when they spotted two men in a Proton Waja behaving suspiciously at the Kundang night market area.

The team, in a Toyota Hilux, then tailed the suspect for about two kilometres, before they blocked the suspects’ car at a corner in Jalan Lagong.

“Our officers shouted ‘police!’ several times in an attempt to make the suspects stop their vehicle.

“However, in their bid to escape, the Proton Waja driver lost control of the vehicle before it rammed into the road divider there.

“The team then heard several shots came from inside the Proton Waja, before the two men inside got out of the car and continued shooting towards police,” he said when met at the scene.

This forced the team to return fire.

Adnan said one of the bullets fired towards police hit the team’s vehicle. He said police found a .38 revolver with three spent casings and a live bullet inside at the hand of one of the suspects, while a Beretta semi-automatic pistol was found tucked inside the second suspect’s trousers.

Police also found a parang, two knives, a steel rod, a glove and ski mask, as well as a set of car registration plates inside the Waja.

“Checks on the victims’ identities later revealed that they were aged 40 and 41, from Kepong and Sungai Buloh.

“One of them had a record of four previous criminal cases, and was wanted to facilitate investigation in a Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapon, while another had no previous criminal record.”

Investigators also found that the Waja was reported stolen in 2014.

Adnan said the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder (of the policemen).-nst
