Unemployment level in Msia not severe, says Cuepacs

KUALA LUMPUR: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) believes that the country is not affected by serious unemployment.

Cuepacs president Datuk Azih Muda said human resources are being fully utilised in the country and despite the shedding of jobs especially in Malaysia’s oil and gas industry, the tough economic climate is only temporary.

“Malaysia is a capitalist economy which depends on oil and gas, and it is normal for oil prices to fluctuate due to demand and supply.

“We are also experiencing pressure from other economies which are Malaysia’s export markets, such as China.

“But the impact is not big in terms of unemployment,” he told reporters during the Labour Day Appreciation Ceremony 2015 at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) Tower here.

Also present was Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

At the same time, Azih said Cuepacs would work with the private sector to ensure that they would continue to open the door to job opportunities.

More than 100,000 fresh graduates from higher education institutions each year who are looking to land a job, he said.

Azih also noted that the government has implemented various initiatives to get more Malaysians into work.-nst
