Kelantan, Federal cooperation behind push for Private Member’s Bill, says Hadi

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan and Federal governments have co-operated to ensure that the Private Member’s Bill on uplifting the power of the Syariah courts gets through to Parliament.

Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang today said the co-operation between the governments was necessary for the Bill to be tabled.

“We admit that it is due to the co-operation between the state and Federal governments on the issue of the Bill,” he told reporters after delivering his policy speech when opening the 62nd Pas’ Muktamar in Pengkalan Chepa here.

The appearance of the Bill in Parliament recently sparked criticisms from other opposition parties including DAP.

The opposition had questioned the swift process of the bill getting into Parliament and had claimed that Pas and Barisan Nasional leaders had used their ties to speed up the procedures.

Hadi said politics was not limited to the parliamentary process as it also covered other spheres such as co-operation and discussions among competing parties.-nst
