No changes in Causeway clearance procedures despite VEP implementation

JOHOR BARU: Motorists from Singapore who entered Malaysia today did not notice any difference when they passed through the Causeway, although the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) system was supposed to begin operation today.

Several motorists met by the New Straits Times said there were no new procedures or steps that they had to go through before entering Malaysia.

“There was nothing new at the checkpoints that indicated that the VEP is running. It was like any other time that I came to Malaysia so it was relatively smooth,” said Ching Kee Peng.

He also said there were no notices or announcements that alerted the motorists that the VEP might be operational.

“I am prepared for the implementation of the VEP as I have already registered my vehicle for it. I am just waiting for it to start,” said Ching, who said he comes to Malaysia about once a week for business.-nst
