LAHAD DATU: Three Indonesians were believed to have been abducted in waters off Felda Sahabat 16 near here, last night.

The incident occurred at 11.40pm when five gunmen stormed a fishing trawler with seven people on board.

Four victims were left behind while the three Indonesians were taken by the armed men who were on a white speed boat.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun did not confirm the incident when contacted.

He is scheduled to give a press conference on the matter at 1pm. Rashid is also expected to inspect the site where the kidnapping occurred.

In February 2013, Filipino gunmen who were followers of the defunct Sulu Sultanate entered Kampung Tanduo at Sahabat 16 to stake a claim on Sabah.

The intrusion saw 10 Malaysian security forces killed, including in a shooting incident at Kampung Simunul in Semporna.-nst
