KULIM: A new political party being formed by former prime minster Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has set its sight on contesting in the next general election.

Dr Mahathir said the yet-to-be named party would field old and new faces in all constituencies nationwide in the 14th general election.

In wrapping up a talk about current issues in Malaysia at Karangan near here late last night, Dr Mahathir urged the people to join his new party as members upon its formation. “The party is in the process of being registered (by the Registrar of Societies).

“The process (registration) will take some time,” he said.

Earlier, another speaker, former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also said an announcement on the details of the new party would be made at an appropriate time.

Also present were former Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.
