SUNGAI PETANI: A police constable died after he was run over by several vehicles when he fell off his motorcycle, less than a month from his wedding day.
Kons Mohd Zabani Zakaria, 25, who was to get married on Aug 25, collided with a lorry before falling off his machine at the 104th kilometre of the North-South Expressway at 2.50am yesterday.
“We had made preparations for our wedding. We had ordered three sets of clothes to wear on our big day,” said his grieving fiancee Puteri Nurul Nisa Nazri, 22, at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital mortuary.
She said Kons Zabani joined the police force in October last year.
“He had sent me a message asking me to take care of his parents if he dies.

“I told him not to say such words as it was not good, especially with our wedding around the corner.”
The tragedy happened when Kons Zabani was on his way to his hometown in Kampung Alor Gunung, Alor Setar, not far from Puteri Nurul Nisa’s home in Gunung Keriang.
Kuala Muda district police chief Asst Comm Md Zukir Md Isa said Kons Zabani was believed to have rammed the rear of the lorry which was moving along the left lane.
“The collision caused him to fall off his motorcycle and he was run over by a few passing vehicles, including a lorry,” ACP Md Zukir said.
He said a car caught fire after crashing into the fallen motorcycle and dragged it for a distance but its 29-year-old driver escaped unhurt from the burning vehicle.
In KLUANG, a policeman was killed in an accident while he was on patrol duty at the 78th kilometre of the Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam (Machap) road here yesterday afternoon.
Kpl Basri Yaacob, 34, was with Lans Kpl Mohd Amirul Hakim Abd Latif, 31, then.
Both policemen were involved in Ops Kargo at the time, Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Laham said.
He said Kpl Basri, who was driving the car, had rammed the back of a trailer parked on the road’s left shoulder.
“They suffered severe injuries and were sent to a hospital,” he said, adding that Kpl Basri was pronounced dead later.
Lans Kpl Mohd Amirul had a broken leg while the 55-year-old trailer driver was unhurt.-thestar
