IGP: Police to call up Langkawi MP

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will be calling up Langkawi MP Datuk Nawawi Ahmad over his statement allegedly linking the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as the “Malaysian Official No. 1 (MO1)” in the US Department of Justice (DoJ) report.

The DoJ is seeking to seize dozens of properties tied to state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), saying that over US$3.5bil (RM14.07bil) was misappropriated from the institution.

Bernama cited Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pix) as saying that police had received several reports over the matter and investigations would be carried out.

“We will be calling the MP concerned to record his statement soon,” he told reporters at the conferment of ranks for senior police officers at Bukit Aman here Friday.

In a Facebook post earlier, Nawawi denied making allegations linking the King to 1MDB.

Nawawi said he had lodged a police report over the issue.-thestar
