PETALING JAYA: National shuttlers Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong have done the nation proud by winning Malaysia’s third silver medal at the end of their gold medal match in the Rio Olympics on Friday.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak took to Twitter following the conclusion of the match to say that Goh and Tan had given their best.
“I am proud of their achievements, (in securing Malaysia’s) third silver medal,” said Najib.
“Nothing to be ashamed of. Nothing. Our boys did us proud,” said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
Khairy also congratulated national coaches Jeremy Gan and Wong Pei Tty for their “calming presence” and for helping the nation win two silver medals at the Rio Olympics.
“Three silvers. One bronze. One more final tomorrow. Let’s keep on believing. Only positive vibes,” added Khairy.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai was also among the first to respond on social media.
“What a match! V Shem and Wee Kiong, Malaysia is proud of you both,” tweeted Liow.
The match between Goh and Tan and China’s Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan ended 21-16, 11-21, 21-23 after three sets.-thestar
