BESUT: A 78-year-old man succumbed to his injuries yesterday, several hours after he was involved in a scuffle with a 62-year-old man near Pengkalan Nyireh market near here.

The victim, identified as Taib Salleh, of Air Tawar, was pronounced dead at noon yesterday while receiving treatment at the Besut Hospital.

Police have arrested the suspect, who had previous criminal records, to facilitate investigations.

They believed that an old misunderstanding could have sparked the 9am incident.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi said Taib’s stepson rushed him to the hospital after he vomited and collapsed at the stepson’s home just a few metres from the market.

However, he said doctors could not save the victim.

“Following that a 62-year-old suspect was detained to assist our investigation,” he said. The case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.-nst
