Nine human trafficking victims found chained to each other in house

ALOR STAR: Kedah police rescued nine human trafficking victims from a house in Pendang early this morning.

Police chief Datuk Asri Yusoff said the team found the men, aged between 22 and 45, chained to each other inside the premises during the 1.30am raid. He said eight of the men are Bangladesh nationals, while one is from Myanmar.

According to Asri, police arrested six men, including a 15-year-old boy, to facilitate in the investigation.

He said initial investigation showed that six of the victims had been detained at the house since Aug 29 after being kidnapped from a construction site in Sungai Petani.

“Three other victims are related to two kidnapping cases in Kuala Lumpur and Perak.

“The case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961, Section 342 of the Penal Code and Section 13 of the Anti-Trafficking in Person Act 2007,” he said to the press here today.-nst
