Penampang MP refutes compensation claim

KOTA KINABALU: Former PKR vice-president Darell Leiking (pic) says that his departure from the party was mutually agreed to and as such there was no need to pay any compensation for leaving.

Leiking, the Penampang MP, who quit PKR last week, said party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had consented to his decision to leave to join forces with former Umno vice-president Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal to form a yet-to-be-named Sabah-based party.

“PKR has its own way of dealing with things. She (Wan Azizah) accepted my resignation and (there is) no bond, unless if (my decision to leave) it is unacceptable,” he said when asked about social media claims that he has pay RM5mil due to a contract with PKR to contest Penampang before the 2013 general election.

“I left with mutual respect. Unless I’ve crossed to Barisan Nasional, then it is a different situation.

“I am still in the same ‘taman opposition’ only a new house number at the same taman. Anyone who said I betrayed the mandate is not honest. I’ve not changed any of my causes, stance. I am ready for brickbats.’’ he told reporters after handing over duties to Penampang PKR division deputy chairman Kenny Chua at the PKR office here.-thestar
