Selangor threatens legal action against EC over redelineation exercise

PUCHONG: The Selangor government will proceed with legal action against the Election Commission (EC) if it fails to respond to the letter sent by the former requesting for an explanation on the proposed redelineation exercise.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the state government had sent a letter to the EC two days ago for the commission to hold discussions with the state government on the matter.

“We sent the letter two days ago, giving the commission 48 hours to hold discussions with the state government or respond in writing the basis and mechanism used to conduct the exercise.

“If they fail to respond by tomorrow, we will proceed with legal action against them,” he told reporters at the launch of the Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong to Jalan Utama 2 elevated highway here, today.

He added that the proposed redelineation exercise could affect the harmony among races in Selangor.

The commission had published a notice on the redelineation on Sept 15.

State governments, local governments and at least 100 people from each constituency could object to the proposal within a month since the notice was published.-nst
