Gang involved in string of 7-11 and Guardian pharmacy robberies nabbed

ALOR STAR: A robbery gang which has been targeting convenience stores in the district for the last two months has been routed by the Kota Setar district police.

Its police chief assistant commissioner Mohd Rozi Jidin said police arrested four men, aged between 26 and 43, on Sept 29 based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from a shop which they robbed two days earlier.

“The men were picked up at a house in Kampung Borhan, Jalan Langgar at about 2am. During the raid, we also found some of the items they had stolen,” Rozi said in a press conference this morning.

He said initial investigations reveal that the men were involved in 11 robbery cases, mostly at 7-Eleven shops and Guardian pharmacies, with estimated hauls of between RM1,000 and RM1,500 at each shop.

Rozi added that the group, always armed with knives and machetes, is believed to have been involved in similar robbery cases in Kubang Pasu district.

In an unrelated case, Rozi said police arrested a man in his 30s believed to be involved 10 car theft cases since August.

He said the man was arrested at about 12.30pm on Oct 3 at his house in Seberang Kota, Kuala Kedah.

Besides recovering some of the items stolen from the cars, including handbags and purses, Rozi said police also found the instrument the man used to break into the cars.-nst
