Gerakan is all for moderation, truth and rationality

KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan is a solution-based party, upholding the spirit of moderation and truth to pursue the interest of all in a rational manner said Datuk Dr Cheah Soon Hai, Gerakan deputy president.

In his opening speech at the Gerakan’s National Delegate Conference 2016 at Menara PGRM, Cheah said that the party will not exaggerate problems faced by political parties because amplifying issues will make them worst.

“Gerakan plays a crucial role at this critical moment with the current political scenario. We must highlight that our tasks and role are based on moderation, truth and rationality, to ensure Barisan Nasional and Malaysia continue to grow and move forward peacefully,” he said.

Citing examples of conflicts between Bersih 5 and the Red Shirt, he said the confrontation and rallies worry him and Gerakan.

“We hope both parties will fully support Gerakan youth chief Tan Keng Liang’s suggestion to assemble peacefully and it (the rallies) will not cause any problem to the country and the public,” he spoke to reporters at the conference for Beliawanis and Gerakan Youth.

Cheah echoed the suggestion of Datuk Seri Nazir Razak to establish a second National Consultative Council (NCC) as a platform for unity under the Council of Rulers.

“We hope the government will take into consideration (the formation of NCC2) to get the opinions of all,” he said.

He reiterated that Malaysia as a multiracial country has a lot of potential and everyone should move forward in efforts for peace but not for the chaos and unrest brought about by street protests.

The 2-day conference is attended by 401 delegates in Beliawanis and Gerakan Youth.
