KUALA LUMPUR: The Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) can be an important tool in countering the Islamic State (IS) narrative and ideologies, says Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein (pic).
The Defence Minister said the importance of countering IS ideologies must not be under-estimated.
“One advantage that we have is the GMM.
“It is definitely something that I will be discussing with Saudi Arabia’s leadership soon on how they can work with us to counter extremism, militancy and Islamophobia,” he said.
Hishammuddin said the issue of counter narrative and GMM also came up in his discussion with Secretary of Defence for the United States Ashton Carter during the US-Asean Defence Minister’s Informal Meeting in Hawaii this month.-thestar
