KUALA LUMPUR: The newly-formed National Special Operations Force (NSOF) will spearhead the nation’s response to any terror threat, says Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic).

The Prime Minister said the unit, comprising personnel from the Armed Forces, police, and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) will act as an integrated unit and be the first responder to any terror situation in the country.

“We are not apologetic for any measures taken by our security forces.

“This unit is based on the National Blue Ocean Strategy principal of sharing assets and capabilities, and acting under a single chain of command,” he said before launching the NSOF on Thursday.

He also expressed his confidence that the unit would be successful in safeguarding the country’s peace and security against any threat – including that of the Islamic State.

“Without peace and security, all bets are off,” he said.

Najib said that during this initial stage, personnel in NSOF will be seconded from the three main agencies.

“However, designated posts will be assigned once the unit is operational to prevent any disruption of the agencies involved,” he said.-thestar
