Malaysia prepared for all possibilities, including dismantling of TPPA

KEMBANGAN: Malaysia is always ready for all possibilities and has contingency plans (for all eventualities) on the uncertainty facing the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) in light of Donald Trump’s presidency win in the United States.

International Trade and Industries Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said Malaysia maintains close relations with many nations.

“We are friends with everyone. We are close to the United States, China, Japan (we have a Look East Policy that is still in place), we are close to Islamic countries and we are close to our Asean neighbours.

That is our policy,” he said.

Mustapa was asked to comment on the possibility that the Trump administration might curtail the TPPA, which was put together under the administration of President Barack Obama.

He explained that Malaysia is always ready for all possibilities and has contingency plans in place. Mustapa said he holds a positive outlook on Malaysia’s trade partnership with China.

The minister was speaking to the media after launching the Malaysia Autoshow 2016 (Nov 10-13) here today.-nst
