KUALA LUMPUR: A united MCA holds the key to the party and Barisan Nasional winning more seats in the next general election.
This, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic), is because a rejuvenated MCA would be able to field the best candidates to serve the people.
“If we are united, many issues can be resolved. When we are out in the field, there is no headache.
“Umno can deal with one MCA,” said Najib in his opening speech at the 63rd MCA annual general assembly on Sunday.
He explained that as Barisan chairman, there would be no headache for him as candidates presented for his consideration would not be from “Team A or Team B” but would be winnable candidates.
“I am sorry to say but this has happened. Let us be frank about it. I don’t want it to happen again,” said Najib.
The premier said he was pleased with party president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai’s assurance that there are no longer factions in MCA.
“I can sleep peacefully tonight because the MCA candidates list for the general election is based on the best possible candidate for the constituency,” he said.
This, added Najib, is part of MCA’s rejuvenation, which will regain public confidence in the party.-thestar
