PETRA JAYA: National diving queen Pandelela Rinong Pamg was awarded the Sarawak Sports Youth Icon 2016 trophy during state-level Youth Day celebrations at Stadium Perpaduan here today.

The award was accorded in recognition of her silver medal-winning achievement at the Rio Olympics.

The state government congratulated her success in consistently winning medals not only for Sarawak, but for the country.

Sarawak Youth, Sports and Solidarity Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong, representing Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem, presented the award to Pandelela.

Besides Pandelela, four Youth leaders from the state were also honoured, namely Kelvin Wan Kwong Wei, who was presented with the Volunteer Youth Icon, Desmond Sagoh (Arts Youth Icon), Jang Yee Khie (Special Youth Icon) and Dr Fauzan Sahdi (Innovative and Skill Youth Icon).
