TAIPING: The early morning downpour today did not dampen the spirits of a group of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates here who received assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department to get to their schools.
The students, who lived near the flood-hit areas, had faced a challenge on how to get to school in time for the examination, as the flood waters rose and inundated some houses.
A spokesman for the State Flood Committee Secretariat said a lorry from the Taiping fire station was deployed to help the students reach their schools safely.
He said the rising waters were caused by the high-tide phenomenon, which led to the homes being flooded at about 6.30am.
“However, as of now, no victims have been relocated to relief centres,” he said.
Despite the situation, other pupils were still going to school. They were seen wading through the ankle-deep water with their friends, to reach their respective schools.
