Three cops cheat death as police car ram into incoming vehicle in Kuantan

ROMPIN: Three policemen on patrol had a close shave with death when their vehicle collided with another vehicle at Km134 of Jalan Kuantan-Segamat near hear this morning.

In the 8am accident, front passenger Paskhalid Osman, 30, who is attached to the district traffic police station, sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) at Kuantan.

Police car driver Azmi Mohmad, 31, who is from the Muadzam Shah police station, sustained minor injuries and was still receiving treatment at the Muadzam Shah Hospital.

Back passenger Mohd Husaini Hassan, 29, who works at the Bukit Ibam police station, was uninjured.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Aidil Roneh said the incident was believed to have transpired when a Perodua Alza, which was en route to Segamat from Pekan, entered the opposing lane and collided head-on with the police car.

“We are still investigating the cause of the accident. We will be meeting the driver of the Perodua Alza, who has not been identified yet, and the three policemen involved to facilitate investigation,” he said when contacted today.

Aidil added that police are investigating the matter under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. -nst
