2 career criminals nabbed for impersonating police, robbing teen

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police detained two men believed to have impersonated police and robbed teenagers around Seberang Perai Tengah.

Perai Tengah District police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the two suspects, aged 20 and 40, were caught at a petrol station in Taman Chai Leng, Perai near here at 11.45am.

“They had just robbed a 15-year-old behind the petrol station when they were nabbed.

They were wearing vests like those of police’s, and pretending to be security personnel, inspecting the teenager’s licence and waist pouch.

“They took the victim’s waist pouch containing a wallet and money, as well as two mobile phones before fleeing on motorcycle,” he said here today.

He said police recovered the items belonging to the victim and seized two vests, a handcuff and key.

Nik Ros Azhan said initial investigations found that the duo had four previous criminal records and been on the prowl for several months. — Bernama
