Despatch rider charged with supporting terror group and possessing explosives

KUALA LUMPUR: A despatch rider claimed trial at the High Court here today over two charges of supporting terror activities, including possessing explosives, since April this year.

Fazar Nor Md Reduan, 33, nodded in understanding when the charges were read before Judge Datuk Ab Karim Ab Rahman at the High Court today.

He was accused of supporting terror activities via the Telegram application on his smartphone. Fazar was accused of committing the offence at No. 107, Block 11, AU 3/1, Ampang Ulu Kelang here between April and June.

For the second offence, he allegedly owned explosives linked to terror group Islamic State (IS).

He purportedly possessed the items at No 2/23A, Taman Danau Kota, off Jalan Genting Klang at 1.20pm on June 28.

He was charged under Section 130J(1)(b) of the Penal Code and 130JB(1)(a) of the same Code which carries lifetime imprisonment and a maximum seven years’ jail upon conviction, respectively.

Deputy public prosecutor Noor Syazwani Mohamad Sobry prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.

The court fixed Jan 23 for mention.
