Dozens evacuated in Kemaman as heavy rains trigger flash floods

KUALA TERENGGANU: Heavy rains since yesterday caused flash floods across Kemaman, submerging many homes in several districts here.

According to Terengganu’s flood portal, http://etindakan.terengganu.gov.my/, as of 11am, 63 people from 17 families were forced to evacuate their homes and seek shelter at four relief centres.

The relief centres are SMK Badrul Alam Shah, Kemasik; Balai Kampung Batu 9 kindergarten, Ibok; Balai Kampung Padang Kemunting; and Kampung Bukit Kuang community hall.

“The evacuation centres were opened at 12.30am when the flood waters began to inundate the houses of residents, and a district flood operations centre was opened at 8.10am today,” Kemaman district officer, Rosman Roslan, said in a media statement today.-nst
