SEMPORNA: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has confirmed the success of the General Operation Force (GOF) in battling a notorious kidnap-for-ransom group in Bekapit waters here last night.

Through his Twitter account, Khalid said besides the three kidnappers shot dead, three other abductors were arrested, and one victim was safely rescued by the security team.

“Congratulations to Tiger Platoon PGA @ PDRMsia for putting down three and capturing three kidnappers, and saving one kidnap victim at Bakapit, Semporna.#GoPDRMGo,” he tweeted.

During the 9.30pm shooting showdown, a GOF member is believed to have been shot in the leg.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Abd Rashid Harun is slated to hold a press conference on the incident at the district police station this morning.-nst
