KL Eco City bridge search called off, no further victims found

KUALA LUMPUR: The City Fire and Rescue Department called off its search and rescue (SAR) operation this morning at the under-construction pedestrian bridge which collapsed at KL Eco City near Mid Valley Megamall yesterday.

It is learnt that no body was found by rescuers after a meticulous search through the rubble.

City Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman said its K9 unit, which was deployed yesterday, did not pick up any trace of other victims in the wreckage.

The 19-hour mission involving firemen and police was called off at 10.25am today.

In total, four victims, comprising Bangladeshis, Vietnamese and a Sabahan, were sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) yesterday.

Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that one construction worker died in the tragedy.

The worker is believed to have drowned in the river below after falling when the structure gave way.

The under-construction pedestrian bridge reportedly gave way at 3.30pm yesterday.

It was reported that the workers were having their lunch break and were seated under the bridge when the tragedy occurred.-nst
