KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today categorically condemned the atrocities being committed on the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, saying that he will not stay silent on the issue.

Speaking to 10,000 Malaysians and Rohingya gathered at the Solidarity Assembly for Rohingya at Stadium Titiwangsa today, Najib sent a direct message to the State Counsellor of Myanmar, Aung San Suu Kyi, reminding her of her Nobel Peace Prize.

“I want to tell Aung San Suu Kyi: Enough is enough! Two days ago, I received a statement from the Myanmar government telling me if I attend today’s rally, it shows that I’m interfering in their internal affairs.

“They warned me! But I don’t care, because I’m not here just as Najib Razak, I am here in the name of the Ummah and as a Malaysian,” he said in his speech, while the crowd cheered on passionately.

Najib said his presence at the rally cannot be seen as “interfering” in another country’s affairs, because the massacre of the Rohingya in Rakhine state is a violation of human rights.

He explained that the statement sent to him by the Myanmar government cited an article from the Asean Charter, saying that another country within the region can’t interfere with another’s affairs.

“They are using only one article.

There are a lot of articles in the Charter. Did they just read one article? What about articles on human rights?

“Are they blind? Don’t simply interpret (the Charter) as you wish. What do they expect us to do? They want me to shut my eyes and my mouth?

“I refuse to shut my eyes and my mouth. We will continue to fight until the Rohingya are safe,” he added.-nst
