Nik Nazmi fined RM1500 for Black 505 rally

SHAH ALAM: PKR lawmaker Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has been fined RM1,500 by the High Court after pleading guilty to an offence under the Peaceful Assembly Act.

The Seri Setia assemblyman pleaded guilty to failing to notify the police 10 days prior to the Black 505 rally at the MBPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya on May 8 three years ago.

Nik Nazmi had initially claimed trial to the offence, but changed his plea when the charges were read to him by a court interpreter before Justice Ghazali Cha on Thursday.

Nik Nazmi paid the fine and left the court with his counsel and several supporters.

He was charged under Section 9(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act for failing to notify the police 10 days prior to the ‘Programme Penerangan Negeri Selangor’ Black 505 rally at the MBPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya on May 8.

The ‘Black 505’ rally was organised to protest against the allegedly widespread electoral fraud during the 13th General Election.

Nik Nazmi was represented by counsel Shahredzan Johan while Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin appeared for the prosecution.-thestar
