Smooth-talking Selayang firemen convince woman not to jump to her death

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman was saved from jumping off the third floor of the Selayang Fire and Rescue Department housing quarters this morning, thanks to firemen who managed to coax her to come down.

The woman, in her 20s, was spotted entering the quarters around 9.30am today, dragging a plastic chair before going up to the third floor of Block B.

Several firemen who noticed her unusual behaviour chased her to the third floor.

One of the firemen, Mohammad Izuan Razali, said he and two of his colleagues, Zaki Zakaria and Nurhayati Abdul Ghani, spent about 30 minutes talking to the woman in a bid to persuade her to come down from the ledge.

“Eventually, after much persuading, she eventually gave her hand and decided not to jump.

“With the help of two other firemen, I managed to pull the woman to safety and calm her down before handing her to the police for further action,” he said.

Mohammad Izuan said they believe that the woman was psychologically disturbed, prompting her to resort to the drastic action.-nst
