Two men nabbed for trafficking drugs

JOHOR BARU: Two men were arrested for trafficking drugs worth RM166,100 in Taman Mount Austin here, bringing the total narcotics seized in the state so far this year to RM26.19mil.

In the latest case, Johor Narcotics Investigation Department chief ACP Lukas Ak Aket said the men, aged 26 and 27, were found with 5,000 Eramine 5 pills, 980 ecstasy pills and 146g of ketamine.

The first suspect, said ACP Lukas, was arrested while carrying the Eramine 5 and ecstasy pills.

“His arrest led us to a raid at a nearby house on the same day, where we detained the second suspect and found the other drugs,” he told reporters here yesterday.

He said the police also seized cash and two cars during the raid.

Investigations revealed that the suspects had obtained the drugs from their suppliers in Johor and the northern part of the country, said ACP Lukas, adding that the police were tracking down other accomplices.

One of the men was remanded for five days and the other for a week to help in the investigation under the Dangerous Drugs Act, which carries the mandatory death sentence.

As of November, Johor police, said ACP Lukas, had seized 796.8kg of various drugs worth RM26.19mil and arrested 16,828 drug offenders.

Items such as weighing scales, cars and others, worth around RM10.85mil, were also confiscated.
