BESUT: Villagers on Sunday nabbed a 42-year-old man for stealing 15 bunches of oil palm fruits worth RM300 from the Risda Oil Palm Plantation near Kampung Kerandang, here, on Sunday.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi said a 29-year-old plantation’s supervisor from the same village spotted the suspect with his accomplice stealing the oil palm fruit’s about 6.30pm.

Zamri said both suspects loaded the fruits into a red Proton Iswara and sped-off towards Jabi.

“The supervisor and several villagers chased the car and cornered it near the Felcra weighing station at Kampung Oh, here,” he said. He said the victim and villagers arrested one suspect while the other escaped the scene on foot.

“The victim has lodged a report at the Kampung Raja police station later after handing over the suspect to the Besut police station for further investigation,” he said.

He said the suspect was tested positive for opiate and was being held at the station for investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code for thefts. “We are searching for the other suspect to assist in the investigation,” he added.

In another case, Zamri said police are looking for a 28-year-old Bangladeshi identified as Monirul Islam, 28, to assist in the investigation of a robbery case in Jalan Pondok Jabi, last year.

He said Monirul’s last known address was at 0-1 Desa Permai Jalan 16B, Taman Dato Ahmad Razali, Ampang Selangor.

He was reported to have moved to Kampung Pulau Kerengga in Marang Terengganu.

He said those with information of Monirul’s whereabouts should call the nearest police station or Inspector Aiman Azemi at 012-5557146 or Besut police station 09-6956222.
