Yusuf Al Qaradawi supports Malaysia’s criticism on oppression of Rohingya

KUALA LUMPUR: President of International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), Sheikh Dr Yusuf Al-Qaradawi has supported Malaysia’s criticism on the oppression of the Rohingya in Myanmar.

An official statement of IUMS, South-east Asia branch issued last night said Yusof praised the Malaysian government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for his bravery and resolute opposition to the tyranny.

He also agreed with PAS president (Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang), who is also IUMS vice-president, who urged the international community to use a more comprehensive approach to stop the oppression taking place in Myanmar.

“The president (Yusuf) is sad because it is happening before the eyes of the international community and the Islamic world without any action taken.” Yusuf also declared December 16 as ‘Rohingya Defend Day.’

On December 4, Najib and Abdul Hadi attended a solidarity rally here to protest ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

In his speech, Najib urged the ASEAN community, the United Nations (UN) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to stop the atrocities against the Rohingya.–BERNAMA
