CVLB officer caught for soliciting RM1,290 bribe

KOTA KINABALU: A Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board officer has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly demanding for a bribe from a bus operator.

MACC Sabah director Datuk Shaharom Nizam Abdul Manap said the arrest was made as the complainant was passing RM1,290 in cash to the 37-year-old officer at Wisma Muis in Sembulan here at 10.46am.

The bus operator, a 50-year-old woman had lodged a report.

“She claimed that the suspect had contacted her on Jan 9 asking for a sum of money as a reward for assisting in processing the interim stage for bus support fund for her company.

“The case will be investigated under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009 for soliciting/receiving gratification.

Currently, the officer is being detained to facilitate investigations.-nst
