Datuk Seri who brutalised guard over clamped Mercedes surrenders to cops

GEORGE TOWN: A man who was filmed brutally beating a security guard at his condominium on Saturday has surrendered to police here.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the Datuk Seri businessman came forward to officers at the district police headquarters at 11am today.

“Investigation is ongoing,” Mior told newsmen. Video of a condominium security guard being badly assaulted by an angry resident here went viral on social media yesterday.

The 40-second video, taken by the security guard, depicts the resident – who was angry that his Mercedes S-class Coupe had been clamped, and was in the midst of illegally removing the clamp from his tyre using large steel cutters – coming at the guard before bashing him with the cutter.

Angry that he was being filmed, the Datuk Seri also proceeded to punch and kick the guard, who had fallen to the ground, but continued recording.

The 43-year-old victim sustained facial and bodily injuries in the incident, which occurred near the lobby of the

Delima Palace Condominium in Greenland here on Saturday. Both parties have lodged separate reports on the incident. Police are investigating the case under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt.

Meanwhile, a police car was seen arriving at the condominium at 11.10am today before leaving at 12.45pm. Newsmen were not allowed to enter the premises.-nst
