SANDAKAN: An elderly man was killed in a hit-and-run incident after being mowed down by a car while crossing the road at Mile 3 Jalan Utara here, early this morning.

The 63-year-old victim was dragged for nearly 31.4 metres after he was hit by the vehicle, which was heading towards the direction of the town.

He died at the scene due to serious injuries.

His remains were sent to the Duchess of Kent district hospital for a post-mortem examination.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin said police have classified the case as a hit-and-run and are appealing to those with information on the incident, which occurred at 5.15am, to step forward.

“We are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information can channel the details to traffic investigation officer Inspector Rodi Anak Wong at 089-212222 or 089-242222,” Mohd Azhar said.-nst
