Flying lorry tyres smash car, driver survives with cuts

SIBU: It was almost like a scene from the movies when with two giant lorry wheels came flying in the direction a dockyard worker.

The 41-year-old man was driving his Toyota Vios in Rantau Panjang here yesterday when the axle with dual tyres from a 10-tonne lorry came loose, flew off and slammed into the man’s car.

It was a close shave for the victim.

He survived with just cuts on his forearms in the 1pm incident.

The car though, was badly damaged and the windscreen shattered.

It was learnt that the lorry was heading to a nearby sawmill and the victim was coming from the opposite direction.

It was also understood that the lorry driver escaped without any injury.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department acting deputy chief Assistant Superintendent Mathew Manggie said police are aware of the case.

“We are waiting for the lorry drive to lodge a report before giving out details on what had happened,” he said when contacted, refusing to elaborate further.-nst
